Bug Theme

I don’t normally go looking for reasons to get up close and personal with bugs, but that is exactly what we will be doing with this theme! We will be exploring bugs of all types and even start our own ant farm (optional). The ant farm is just an added activity for extra hands-on fun, you do not need to purchase the ant farm to join in the fun with this week’s bug theme!

I picked up an Uncle Milton Ant Farm kit last year and the boys loved it! We ordered our ants and they were delivered in a few weeks, so take note of this if you want your ants to come in time for your bug theme. (Ants can only be shipped in safe weather conditions. Check this map for more details about your area.) It was so cool to watch the ants dig their tunnels. I think I found myself watching the ants more than the kids!

If ants aren’t your thing, you could always try this ladybug kit. The ladybug life cycle is fascinating and I highly recommend the Insect Lore kit! Lastly, we will not focus heavily on caterpillars/butterflies in this theme since I have an entire Butterfly Theme later in May.

NOTE: Some of the activity links go straight to a pin on Pinterest instead of a blog page. Read the description of the pin for the activity instructions. If you are new here, make sure to check out the Themed Curriculum page for more details about how to use this curriculum. Looking for a different theme? Check out all of our themes here.
